Malachite Crystal Symbolism and Properties

Malachite is a green gemstone found in copper mines. Let’s explore malachite crystal symbolism and properties. The piece we purchased at the Tucson Gem Show is from the Congo.  I’d heard that malachite crystal supports transformation. I also could tell by the vibrant green that it would be connected with the heart chakra since green is the color associated with the heart chakra (or fourth chakra).

As I pulled out my collection of stones from the gem show, laid them out on the bed and examined each one, this malachite crystal really spoke to me. I had not intended to purchase any malachite at the show. I already have some polished malachite, so it wasn’t on my shopping list.

One of the vendors had a good deal on moonstone, aquamarine and rutilated quartz – all items on my list. I picked out one of each. The vendor only took cash, and the total for the three stones was $5. Dave only had a ten-dollar bill, and the vendor didn’t have change.

The vendor must have seen me looking at the malachite crystals while Dave was paying him. He went over to the malachite box and lifted the malachite crystal in the photograph, and said he’d give us that stone for $5 as our change. Dave and I quickly agreed, and I’m glad we did. It’s my favorite crystal from the show.

What I did not realize, until I researched after the gem show is that malachite is known as the merchant’s gemstone. Ancient merchants wore malachite to support good sales and revenue production. It was believed to be good luck with finances and could supposedly warn you if a fall lay ahead. For example, if a merchant’s malachite talisman cracked, that might forbode an upcoming fall from a camel or a business setback.

Malachite, with its deep green color, is also associated with love. It’s not the light-hearted romantic love you’d associate with rose quartz, but a deep love that can withstand difficult circumstances – an abiding love, a tough love, an unconditional love.

This aspect of the stone stood out to me in my research today since love is my theme word for the year. I’ve been praying for the pure love of Christ that is compassionate and kind to all – regardless of how a person might treat me or those I care about. This malachite crystal seems to be a great support for that, as well as for our business that Dave and I are building together.

Cleansing and Renewing a Malachite Gemstone

  • According to my research, there are several ways to clear any old energy from a malachite crystal and to revitalize it.  You can use any of the following methods:
  • Put the malachite crystal in the light of a full moon overnight
  • Put the crystal in the sunlight for four hours
  • Burn sage around your crystals
  • Use music from a singing bowl or soft piano

I’m not home with my piano so I used a combination of direct Phoenix, Arizona sunlight and played the singing bowl, made in Nepal, that we purchased at the gem show.

How to Use Your Crystals

I use my crystals when I’m meditating, playing the steel drum or another instrument. I place the crystals that support my intention around me on the floor while I sit and play an instrument or simply meditate.

  • You can also wear them as jewelry. Malachite would be good on a necklace that lays over the heart since it specifically is great for the heart chakra.
  • Sometimes I lie on my back and meditate and put stones on my body over the chakras.
  • Malachite would be a great crystal to put in your workspace since it’s a supportive crystal for merchants and entrepreneurs.
  • Carry them with you in your pocket or purse or just hold them in your hand when you feel drawn to them.

Use your imagination on how you’d like to integrate crystals into your life. I keep all my crystals on display or in baskets around my Zen Space / Office.

I have no idea whether using crystals makes the difference that people claim. All I know is that I’m drawn to them and have been my whole life. Since God frequently speaks to me in symbols, crystals add to my lexicon of symbols through which God can communicate to me. For example, just as a cardinal packs a lot of meaning into one small bird, so each crystal packs a lot of meaning as well. The crystal I’m drawn to today may hold a message for me that God wants to give me. Tomorrow I could be drawn to a different one for a different message.

Gemstones and crystals are physical embodiments of God’s Divine love and creativity in concentrated form. They remind me that God is there for me, to support me in tangible ways. “All things denote there is a God.”

Attend a gem show and you’ll quickly see that there are more types of crystals, rocks and stones than you could ever imagine. God truly has created a beautiful world for us to explore and enjoy! If you feel drawn to rocks, stones and crystals, maybe God is wanting to speak to you through them.
