He Said My Name | Mary Magdalene’s Story
I’ve been writing a lot of Christian praise and worship music. As I’ve really gotten into the power of praising the Lord through song, I have felt very strongly that I should create an Easter song. While pondering on this, I felt inspired to tell the story from Mary Magdalene’s perspective.
After prayer and reflection, the words began to come. My husband Dave—who has such a gift for poetry—helped refine them and bring to life the scene at the tomb. Then I paired the lyrics with a melody I had been working on for years and brought it all together.
Honestly… I’m still a bit stunned by how it turned out.
Studying Mary Magdalene’s story has been especially meaningful to me. I have a loved one who has struggled with similar challenges, and seeing how Jesus met Mary in her darkness—and brought her into the light—has given me so much hope.
I pray her story will bring hope to you as well, whatever you may be facing right now.
These lines feel especially meaningful:
“Then He said my name and brought the light
The darkness fled before His might
He knew who I was—who I could be
And He came to set me free…”

If something in this reflection stirred something in you—if you sense God inviting you into a new season but you’re not quite sure what that looks like—that’s exactly what Flow & Grow sessions are for. They’re gentle, Spirit-led conversations where we create space to listen, notice, and discern together. If you’d like to explore what God may be inviting you into, I’d love to walk alongside you.
