Listening to the Land: Sacred Partnership
A Spiritual Homesteading Series
Many people feel drawn to homesteading, gardening, or land-based living—not just as a lifestyle, but as a calling.
- Sometimes that calling shows up as a dream that won’t leave you alone.
- Sometimes it’s a longing for land you don’t yet have.
- Sometimes it’s frustration when what you plant doesn’t grow the way you planned.
This series was born from that space.
Listening to the Land: Sacred Partnership explores the spiritual lessons that emerge when we stop forcing the land and begin listening to—and partnering with it. It’s about learning to observe, experiment, wait, grieve, adapt, and trust. About discovering that the land has preferences, timing, and wisdom of its own — and that God often teaches through those rhythms.
This is not a “how-to” homesteading guide.
It’s a reflective journey into:
- discernment and timing
- disappointment and redirection
- unexpected abundance
- humility and patience
- collaboration with creation rather than control
Whether you’re actively homesteading, dreaming of it, or simply learning to live more rooted and aligned, you’re welcome here.
The Series
Each post in this series builds gently on the last, much like the seasons themselves.
- What We Thought We Were Building—and What the Land Had in Mind
A reflection on vision, detours, and the moment we realized the land was not empty—it was waiting.
- Letting the Field Go Wild: What Happens When You Stop Controlling the Land
On fallow seasons, dormant seeds, and trusting what’s already present.
- Foraging Faithfully: Discovering the Provision Already Growing
An exploration of native plants and wild abundance, inviting us to notice how provision often arrives quietly when we learn to listen and receive. - When Abundance Becomes a Challenge: Living with More Than We Planned
A reflection on pawpaws, unexpected abundance, and the discernment required when provision grows beyond what we know how to manage. - When the Lines Are Redrawn: Boundaries, Loss, and Starting Again
A reflection on land boundaries, surveys, and the grief that comes when carefully planted dreams must be moved—and how starting again can still be faithful.
(More posts will be added here as the series unfolds.)
Sacred Partnership with the Land
At Spirit Tree Farms, we don’t think in terms of stewardship alone.
We think in terms of partnership.
- Partnership means observing instead of assuming.
- Listening instead of imposing.
- Responding instead of controlling.
It means recognizing that the land participates in the process—that it communicates through what thrives, what resists, and what appears unexpectedly. This series honors that relationship and the quiet spiritual formation that happens when we allow the land to be a teacher.
When Discernment Meets Dirt
Many of the themes in this series overlap naturally with the inner work of discernment:
- knowing when to act and when to wait
- grieving plans that didn’t take root
- trusting provision that arrives sideways
- listening for next steps instead of forcing outcomes
If you find yourself navigating these questions—not only in homesteading, but in life—you’re not alone.
An Invitation
If you’re feeling drawn to homesteading or land-based living as a calling—and would like a gentle space to talk through your dreams, questions, or next steps—I offer a free 20-minute alignment conversation.
These conversations are unhurried and relational. They’re simply a chance to listen together, notice what’s stirring, and explore what feels like the next faithful step—without pressure or obligation.
You’re welcome to schedule one if it feels supportive.
Walking Forward Together
This series will grow slowly, the way meaningful things tend to. New reflections will be added as the land continues to teach and the seasons unfold.
If you’d like to follow along, you’re invited to return here anytime.
Sometimes the most important work isn’t about building something new—but about learning how to listen to what’s already alive.
