Can Butterflies See Their Own Wings?
It’s been said,“Butterflies can’t see their own wings, but the rest of the world can.” (Author Unknown).
This actually isn’t true. Butterflies CAN see their wings. They have 360 degree vision and even see ultraviolet markings on their wings and other butterflies’ wings.
The myth that butterflies can’t see their wings is used to illustrate the point that it’s easier to see the beauty and greatness in others, and that we need to realize that we each are miraculously and wonderfully made. While the comparison doesn’t work in actual basis of fact, I do believe it’s true that many of us don’t immediately see our own metaphorical wings.
You are a divine son or daughter of God who loves you. There is greatness within you. You have unique talents, gifts, personality, and presence to share. I believe with God, we can have 360 degree vision of ourselves and start to see ourselves more fully. We can begin to see the subtle nuances (ultraviolet) beauty within ourselves and others. God can show us our gifts, our flaws, our possibilities and our potential. We may not naturally have 360 degree vision like the butterfly, but with God we can obtain it.
Comparing ourselves to others is a waste of time. At the core, we are all the same – a divine presence lives at the center of each of us and you are a unique expression of it in the world. God made you perfect for the purpose He has for you.
We’re always looking outside ourselves for the answers. But the real answers lie within – in the quiet stillness of the soul. That divine light that lives in each of us knows the way.
Unfortunately, the cares of the world, the distractions of daily living, and choices that are out of alignment with our inner divinity make most of us walk around with a bad case of amnesia.
Take time every day to quiet the noise of the world, get centered, and listen to that divine stillness and peace within you. Start remembering who you are! Tune your spirit to God’s spirit and amazing things start to happen. God will start revealing to you the glory and wonder of your wings!
