Mastering Your Craft

Over the years, people have asked me, “How do you get so much done? How have you written over 32 books?” I wasn’t sure how to answer them. Then, as I was listening to Effortless Mastery by jazz pianist, Kenny Werner, I realized it comes down to the same thing that Kenny Werner talks about in his book.

Kenny Werner was asked after a performance: “If you could add anything to your playing, what would it be?”

Werner replied, “More technique.”

“Why?” the person was perplexed because Werner was a master musician.

Werner answered, “Because I love to let the Great Spirit manifest through me. She only gets stuck when I go for something that is not there technically. That distracts me from the bliss I am receiving.” (Source: Effortless Mastery: Liberating the Master Musician Within)

I feel this way about any creative endeavor: writing, running an online business, creating pottery, and playing music.

Fortunately, life brought me years of technical background and experience to implement my ideas that involve publishing online or in print. That has served me well. Knowing how to use technology has made executing and materializing my ideas flow unrestrained into the world.

Improve your technique in whatever you pursue! It will give you the tools and language to be a conduit of God’s messages to the world.
