A Mother’s Love Never Dies

My mother loved to shop and she had great taste in clothes. She would often show up at my house with a new pair of pants, a shirt, or skirt for me. We were about the same size so after she passed away in 2017, I would periodically look in her closet and pick something out that I liked.

It felt like she was still with me on some level. I’d thank her for the gift of a new piece of clothing and feel a sweet connection with her.

I thought I’d gone through everything in her closet that would fit me, and all that was hanging there were some clothes that were too big for me. I’ve dropped about 20 pounds since September, so I hadn’t looked in the closet recently because I knew it would be only bigger clothes.

Today, I was visiting my dad for a while before going to a doctor appointment. We sat outside in his back yard in the sun to talk, and the chair I sat in was wet. I had a big soggy spot on the bottom of my pants that soaked all the way through. When it got closer for the time for me to go, the seat of my pants was still wet. My dad suggested I come inside and find something to put on and put my pants in the dryer.

I went in Mama’s closet and grabbed a pair of jeans that were hanging there. Lo and behold, they are a perfect fit! The size written on them is a couple sizes larger than I normally wear, but they are stretchy jeans and must run small. I never would have tried them on or taken them had I not sat in the water.

I love that Mama gave me a new pair of jeans for my birthday! Isn’t that amazing how she keeps on finding ways to send me gifts of love in so many miraculous ways?!

Another gift I enjoyed from her today were her roses that were in bloom in my father’s yard. Every Mother’s Day we each would pick a rose from one of her bushes. She’d pin them on our dresses or my brother’s suit for church. She may have transitioned from this life, but her roses carry her spirit still.

If you’ve lost a loved one, know that they are never lost. They are always with us. Look for those you love everywhere! I’ve found that my mother is with me a lot and sends me little gifts and miracles that remind me of her quite frequently. Miracles happen! The more you notice them, the more there are!

  1. Love the Mother’s Day article. I, too, find joy wearing my Mother’s clothes. It is like her wrapping her arms around me.
