Behind the Scenes of a Big Miracle

If you follow me on Facebook, you probably know I’ve been working diligently for the past few weeks to get a loved one into a good mental health program, while battling very broken mental health and judicial systems.

My loved one was turned down for the facility that I felt certain was the right one, in fact, the only one available to get some real help. So, we took that facility’s advice and had my loved one go to a stabilization facility for about five days.

As Monday rolled around, and it was almost time for them to be discharged, getting a second intake assessment looked questionable. I decided to delegate scheduling the assessment interview to the stabilization unit and emphasized to them the importance of this 90-day program for my loved one.

The discharge planners did their jobs well, and lined up the assessment interview for Tuesday morning — the same day as discharge. But for several reasons, we weren’t sure whether my loved one would be accepted. Circumstances looked bleak.

Let Go and Let God

After I’d done all I could do, I realized I needed to let go and give it to God. Earlier He had given me a visual of my loved one at this facility. Sure, it could’ve been my imagination, but I could see it happening so clearly. So I decided to trust in that.

And then I remembered a scene from Big Bang Theory. Sheldon (an atheist physicist) and Amy call Sheldon’s Christian Texan mom to give her the exciting news about their wedding date:

Sheldon: “Wait, oh, and I just I want to let you know right now that we are not getting married in a church.

Mary Cooper: That’s all right, Sheldon. Anywhere Jesus is is a church.

Sheldon: Well, he won’t be at our wedding.

Mary Cooper: He’s in my heart, so if I’m there, he’ll be there.

Sheldon: Okay, well, then, he’s your plus-one. You don’t get to bring anyone else.”

And it struck me… my loved one invited me to help them. And wherever I go, Jesus goes. He’s my “plus one.” So if he wants a thing done, no amount of opposition can stop it!

Stepping Out of Delusions into Reality

My loved one suffers from delusions, and I realized I too suffered from delusions! I was seeing events and circumstances and extrapolating worst case scenarios! My loved one has been a mirror showing me my own delusions amplified so clearly that I could not ignore them!

Once I saw my own delusions, I changed my approach. Instead of stewing about how it might not work and what I would do if it didn’t, I went into praise… thanking God for lining up the interview, and that my loved one was going to get into the facility because Jesus is greater than mental illness or man-made rules or difficult logistics. I didn’t just visualize myself jumping up and down when they got in, I went ahead and jumped up and down and praised God ahead of time.

Many times, we look at circumstances or our own delusions and call them truth. Circumstances and our theories or projections are not the truth!! Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Truth is a person, not circumstances!!! Wherever He goes, He brings the truth because He is the Truth! He makes a Way where there is no way. He’s always moving us to a place of more life because He IS Life and has come that we may have life more abundantly!

From now on my mantra is “Jesus is my Plus One! My Truth is Jesus!”
