An Interview with Late Boneset – aka Late Blooming Thoroughwart
Late blooming thoroughwart or late boneset is a medicinal herb used for centuries in traditional medicine and herbalism. It’s native to North America (predominantly in the Eastern part of the United States) and is in the Asteraceae family.
We have some late boneset that are a foot taller than me, and I’m 5’10”! Late boneset blooms in late summer / early fall and has a light sweet scent that is very pleasing. In the video below I explore the symbolism of late boneset and also its medicinal qualities and the clues we can find in the plant about its overarching personality and purpose.
I would characterize the personality and purpose of this plant as purity / purification and balance. It purifies the body, boosts the immune system, flushes the body of impurities, is anti-microbial, a diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and is an analgesic which is good for joint pain / arthritis. It actually acts as a pain reliever for your joints. It has the ability to relax and calm the mind, reduce anxiety, and support sleep. So, it’s great for insomnia.
