Showing Up in Relationships – Letting My Virgo Moon Voice Be Heard
How Cytel Schults helped me embrace my perfectionistic Virgo-moon voice with a process to improve relationships with my body & others.
When I went through a divorce after 28-years of marriage, I told my sister my decision. She exclaimed, “Finally! You’re out here stirring up the world, and you won’t stir a teacup in your own home!”
You may think of me as someone very vocal (33 books and years online sharing thoughts), but unless I feel like I have something significant to say, I tend to be timid in real life. I sit there, listening to others and don’t add much to animated conversations going on around me.
Much of my life, I’ve felt invisible. If there’s a group talking, and I speak to add something, many times nobody seems to hear. Contrast being soft-spoken in everyday life with speaking distinctly for presentations on the stage, and you have quite the dichotomy. It can be very frustrating having to repeat myself over and over because off-stage, at times people can’t hear what I’m saying.
Then, early this summer, I had the impression to reach out to Cytel Schults who works with people on their voices. Through working with Cytel I learned a lot about myself and why my voice tends to go soft unless I really feel like I have something important to share. It has something to do with perfection … the need to have thoroughly thought out what I’m saying, the need to not say the wrong thing the wrong way, or the need to assess everyone’s perspective to make sure what I’ve said won’t be misinterpreted.
In the end, what Cytel gave me is a process or a system I can use to navigate my voice in relationships and embrace/understand the perfectionism that is typical of my “Virgo moon” voice. This process gives my voice the wiggle room it needs to relax the perfectionism and speak up (or know when it’s not the right time to speak up).
Improving My Relationship with My Body
I hope you enjoy this video where we chat about the things I gleaned from working with her and how I’m applying them to not only my relationships with others, but also with my own body/health. I have seen some serious improvement with the osteoarthritis in my hip since applying these relationship principles to the relationship with my hip.
If you get a chance to work with Cytel, do it! She’s amazing.
