Reality Check: Don’t Compare Your Worst with Someone Else’s Online Best

Real life isn’t what people portray on social media. It’s great to look for the good, but we also need to avoid comparing our worst with someone else’s best.

People tend to show only the good when they’re showcasing their homes, their lives, their property, or their projects online. But real life is messy. Things don’t always look perfect while they’re in progress … and even when they’re not. And that’s okay.

What we don’t want to do is be under the illusion that the things we see online are realistic… that people have perfect lives and properties and homes when in reality, they have things that aren’t working and are messy… just like you do. With the camera, it’s easy to zone in on the good and crop out the messy bits.

Looking at life through the eyes of a lens can be a good thing because it teaches you to look for the good and the beautiful in your world. But when that’s all we project to others, it can also be disingenuous and disheartening for those who follow us. So, this is a behind the scenes look at our property… the good, the bad and the ugly. I hope it gives you hope for your own property and nature projects and helps you look for the good in what’s working in your own life.
