Peach Blossoms and Other Random Surprises
We planted a couple dozen fruit trees last year, most of them didn’t make it. Ironically, a peach pit got thrown off our deck and randomly sprouted a peach tree which is now blooming. It’s funny how you work and put a lot of effort into things that don’t bear fruit and then some whimsical thing you did ends up being the thing that flourishes.
It makes me think of that verse in Ecclesiastes, “In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.” (Ecclesiastes 11:6)
Life has a way of rewarding us for effort. Results don’t always come from where you put your effort, but they do come… from wherever God wants them to come from. I’m learning to let go of micromanaging the process. Just do my best and trust that God will provide in His own (often surprising) way!
Are Peach Trees Self Pollinating?
If you know anything about fruit trees, you might be wondering what we were – are peach trees self-pollinating? According to our research, yes they are! That works out nicely because our nearest other peach tree is at least 450 feet away.
The pollinators are going crazy over the blossoms, which is a good thing. The more pollinators we have, the better everything’s going to be growing this year.
